Exit of an Icon

Not being around you does not mean I do not love you, mama; you were my hero. You were the true embodiment of sacrifice and love. The extended family was your primary home. You are one of the best mothers in the world; you were a nice woman; you took family first; you loved everyone around you; you also took good care of me; education was one of your uttermost priorities—you sent me to school; you did your best for me; you are a strong woman indeed; you faced many challenges yet made my welfare your priority. Mama, you taught me how to stand on my own. As a young girl, I may have thought you were wrong, but now I understand that you were right, as you have always cautioned me as regards youthful exuberance.

As a firm lover of education, mama Felicia Jolaade often referred to as (Mama)took me to St. Peters Primary School for my primary education and St. Louis Secondary School for my high school; these were the best schools in Akure while I was growing up. The road was so tough and rough, but Mama never succumbed to pressure. Mama would always provide food for us; nobody comes to her house without eating. Mama Felicia Jolaade shared with us the love she had for my father, Omolagba, and gave me a sense of belonging even at her husband’s house.

If I were to write an epistle, your sacrifice and commitment towards humanity would be well scripted on each page. Thank you, mama. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
